The residents of Azza Community in Lapai local government area of Niger State have called on Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to as a matter of urgency reconstruct the Muye-Gulu road to ease the sufferings of commuters.

Speaking to Journalists in Minna, some indigenes and motorists explained that the reconstruction of the major alternative route from the state to Kogi will ease the plight of motorists.

They stated that reconstructing the Muye-Gulu road would demonstrate Governor Bago’s commitment to infrastructure development and improving the lives of Azza Community residents.

Aliyu Umar, a driver, shared his frustrations in an interview and highlighted the urgent need for repair of the road which he said has been a nightmare for over a decade.

According to him, ” This less than 50-kilometre stretch has become a death trap, begging for attention from a compassionate leader who prioritizes the well-being of citizens”.

Another driver, Ndatsu Musa, echoed similar sentiments, having traversed the route daily for 15 years.

He lamented that his vehicle is constantly in the mechanic’s workshop due to the road’s deplorable state.

Musa also joined Umar in appealing for swift government intervention to revamp the road infrastructure.

A trader and commuter, Adamu Mohammad expressed frustration over increased transportation costs due to the fuel price hike, poor road conditions and expensive motor parts.

In his reaction, a community leader, Malam Muhammad Baba pleaded with the state government to consider the reconstruction of the road from Muye due to its deplorable condition from that axis to ameliorate the suffering of the citizens over a decade ago.

Recall the Gulu to Muye road has been in a dire state for over a decade, with no significant rehabilitation since its construction. This has led to its current collapse, making it a death trap for users.
